First 3 Evangelion Reboot Films Gets 4D Release in December

The official Evangelion Twitter account announced today that the first three reboot films, Evangelion: 1.11 You Are (Not) Alone, Evangelion: 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance, and Evangelion: 3.33 You Can (Not) Redo, will get MX4D and 4DX screenings in Japan from December 4 to December 24, 2020. A new trailer for the screenings was released alongside a visual.

82 cinemas across Japan will be screening the films. 4D films have real-life special effects, such as water splashes, that are felt by theatre attendees to make films feel more immersive. The screenings will start on December 4 with Evangelion: 1.11, and switch every week until the planned end in cinemas on December 24, 2020.

The three films debuted in 2007, 2009, and 2012 respectively. Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Shin Evangelion Gekijō-ban (Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time), the fourth film, is delayed due to COVID-19 concerns. The film was scheduled to open in Japan on June 27. The staff have not yet revealed a new release date.
