After the success of Live Action film of Hideaki Sorachi's Gintama, director Yoichi Fukuda and actor Shun Oguri recently revealed that they are planning to make a sequel to the film. The film is tentatively titled as Gintama Part 2 and is planned to release during the 2018 summer vacation. Yoichi and Shun relvealed the news at the launch of the Blu-ray Disc and DVD home video release at the UDX Theater in Tokyo.
The first Gintama live action film was released in the month of July and it earned around US$8.9 million in just first four days. The film already had its Canadian premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival in July, and it will also screen in the United States, Canada, Germany, Spain, and Central and South America.
Gintama, is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Hideaki Sorachi and serialized, beginning on December 8, 2003, in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump. Set in Edo which has been conquered by aliens named Amanto, the plot follows life from the point of view of samurai Gintoki Sakata, who works as a freelancer alongside his friends Shinpachi Shimura and Kagura in order to pay the monthly rent. Sorachi added the science fiction setting to develop characters to his liking after his editor suggested doing a historical series.
Viz Media published the first 23 volumes in English. Shueisha published the manga's 70th volume on October 4. The manga entered its final arc in July 2016.
